KOKO'S DIARY

HI!
I went for a wonderful wedding reception today and everything was close to awesome perfection. The hall was on check, the décor, the people were all wonderfully adorned and the theme colour was baby pink and silver… sweet.
The security at this wedding was superb as you were only allowed entry to the venue with the well designed iv. I walked majestically with my two friends and watched some visitors change money to mint just at the entrance. This has got to be a good one I said. As I moved into the well decorated and ac tight room, the colour just won my heart. God this wouldn’t be bad for my wedding I said. I sat at one corner of the hall and just watched everything unfold as I found myself smiling at every loving gesture the bride and groom showed each other. Shebi na love!! I said to myself, it can be intoxicating. As the dignitaries were called to their specially reserved seats, the MC was making the place worthwhile until we ushered in the newlyweds. Time came and we all stood up to welcome them. The dance and chorus of praises was just too awesome great life band. The bride was beautiful and her make up too simple and classy. I thought about what life would have been like for them in their courting days I also thought of what it took for him to propose and for her to say YES. And then finally call all their friends and families together to come be a witness of their love. Takes more than going to movies together, clubbing together, hot sex, hugs and kisses, gifts and money, holding hands and heated arguments, cheating and the lies, all third party opinions, days of no communication, little worry moments, I just feel it takes an inner deeper thicker connection from the soul and mind plus body to want to will your whole life to someone. You need to have seen the smile on the bride’s face… my God how else do you describe happiness without this much show of it? And then when they came out to cut the cake I watched again still from that corner oh, he kissed her when she almost slipped and lifted her back to her sit. Chai knight in shiny Armor!!
When you watch it like this, you will never place a number on the nights she might have cried herself to sleep maybe because he did something wrong, plus the many times he had to put up with her girly moments or is it the time they might have been close to a hard break up? All these are just mere assumptions as I am not very close to the couple but if you put one or two together you can simply outline the ups and downs of every relationship. The party was well heated up now as there were plenty food and drinks everywhere you know a typical Nigerian party is never complete if there isn’t enough to eat and drink cause some certain people starve themselves to have enough tummy space to fill in parties they attend and after the whole wedding is over when they get back to their various homes, they will like to tell the story based on all the goodies they got next to the look of the bride, bride’s mother and groom’s mother too. MY GOD Yoruba people are first class party rockers. Those gele women and shanko sisis were all over the place, as so were the men with their funny looking filas. Interesting wedding I tell you.
Throw the bouquet of flowers the girls shouted as they all gathered in front of her, some hopeful for a good chase cause of the usual myth that goes with catching the bride’s flower and being next in line to get married when you do. I was still in that same corner now calmer and more relaxed and this time I was sipping some chapman. GBAM!! The flower came and the next thing the girl that caught it was on the floor. She smiled so much I was beginning to assume if catching the flower meant her wedding was next week.hehehe bad belle koko cause I didn’t catch it but I bet if I was on that floor with them that flower was going nowhere but straight into my hands. But will you catch a flower with certain believes when you don’t even have a solid better bobo you can walk down the aisle with? Not like you don’t have a boyfriend but if he hasn’t shown signs of proposing will the groom come from heaven? Abegi so many questions but few answers jare.
It was now getting close to my curfew and I had to start heading home. The life band was playing better jams as I nodded my head and raised my hands continuously to any vibe that caught my attention. The wedding was coming to an end for me and I was glad I left my boring house to be a part of their JOY. Cheers people to the beginning of the rest of their lifes.
Happy married life Oyinlola and Olajide Alara
